Brembana Valley, an Oasis in the Orobie Park

The Brembana Valley is one of the richest environmental resorts in all Lombardy and there are lots of hiking itineraries, well-preserved landscapes and natural places, where tourism is at human dimension.

Our school “D.M.Turoldo” is situated in Zogno, the most populated town in the valley and the most important place, both economical and administrative, far away about 20 km from Bergamo and situated in the middle valley.

The Brembana Valley is characterized by lots of lateral valleys such as Serina Valley, Taleggio Valley, Fondra Valley, Brembilla Valley, Olmo Valley, Averara Valley and Stabina Valley.

The Brembana Valley is a precious casket of art, poetry and history: there are several historical-artistic itineraries in the Valley, from the historical ways such as the Priula Way and the Mercatorum Way to the Medieval Village of Cornello del Tasso, to the Arlecchino House in Oneta, to the liberty of the Casinò in San Pellegrino Terme, but especially to the numerous museums which have defined the Brembana Valley “the Valley of the Museums”.

“The land which the Serio River bathes and the Brembo River floods”, in this way Torquato Tasso described the land near Bergamo in a sonnet of the 1570s. And the Brembo River, in fact, marked the history of the Brembana Valley with its impetuous character, its outbreaks of sudden anger, its devastating fury which, from time to time, sow mournings and ruins along its course. The last flood was in 1987 and since then lots of important hydraulic and forestry reclamation works have been made and lots of renovations of viability in the middle and bottom valley have been realized to guarantee a greater security.

The flood on 18th July 1987.

We all hope that in the future all the beauties of our Valley will be preservedand kept well by the mankind and no floods or natural disasters will happen any more, because man is the only and unique maker of all these disasters.

The Brembana Valley is a valley to love, to live, to taste, to visit!
